Live Messenger - Signing In

I've been using Live Messenger 8.0 for a while now, without any problems.
But since yesterday I haven't been able to login. No error messages, it just
says Signing In.. and these two small guys spinning around and around.
I can't login using another account either. Tried to uninstall and install
the latest build available. Same problem.
Signing in to Web Messenger works fine though.

Hey Axel,

I have the same problem. I found out that it has occured after the last
automatic updates. There were about 12 of them, mostly small. But I cannot
find out which one is the one that causes the problem.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure I installed those updates too.

I just uninstalled the last 5, adressed with the date 10/06, but no solution.
I saw an earlier post which advised to clear the messenger cache. Have you
tried that?

Do you mean deleting the ListCache.dat files in all subdirectories of
%appdata%\Microsoft\MSN Messenger?
Tried that, it didn't work.

I also have this problem. I have another machine using the older MSN
Messenger working fine. Two machines with Live Messenger are both not
working.

Hi Axel and everyone else that has this problem, I have done the same and it
still wont work, does anyone know what to do to sort it

I have the same problem too.

Its been like it for me since Wednesday afternoon

I'm running version 8.0.0812.00

I also have tried everything, including an uninstall/reinstall, clearing out
the cache, adding entries to the messenger hosts file - nada.

I'm not sure that its related to security updates - I haven't updated it for
a while - I've ignored the 'there is a new version available' nag pop-up for
weeks now - maybe thats the problem . I can get on fine using web
messenger, and using an earlier version of WLM that I have installed on
another box (8.0.0792.00)

Guys,
I also had the same problem with MSN Live Messenger hanging during the login in process, this what I did to fix the problem....

1. hit "run" in the start menu
2. type "regedit"
3. Open "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\MSNMessenger "
4. Delete the folder called MSN Messenger
5. After this MSN Messenger Live will login as normal.
