I'm running WLM 2009 Build 14.0.5027.908. It installed fine but when I try to
login the following error appears:
Signing in to Windows Live Messenger Beta failed because the service is
temporarily unavailable. Please try again later
Error code: 8000ffff

I tried re-installing several times, everything check out fine on the
Connection Troubleshooter and on the Service Status, but yet I can't get past
this. Has anyone experienced something similar?

Greetings,

You will receive this if you have not installed all the components or one of the components
failed to install (if you didn't do a manual install).

If you did do a manual install from the MSIs, you'll need to make sure you installed the
Contacts.msi.

As well, if you're trying to mix previous versions of the Windows Live contacts component
(\program files\windows live\contacts\wlcomm.exe), that won't work either. For example,
mixing the old Live Mail with the new Live Messenger isn't possible due to this shared
contacts component between the two apps.

Thanks for the info. I unistalled all Windows Live components including the
Outlook Connector and Live Sign In Assistant both of which I missed before.
I used Revo Uninstaller to make sure the file system and registry had no
traces of these applications. Then I ran CCleaner to review and fix and
registry orphans which I found only a couple. Rebooted a couple of time and
re-ran Revo and CCleaner to again be through. It worked like a charm. I
installed Windows Live again and this time WLM worked without a flaw.

Best regards,
AP

Hi,

You can manually uninstall Messenger by clicking Start, then Run (if not using Vista),
inputing the following and hitting enter:
msiexec /x {B1403D7D-C725-4858-AACC-7E5FA2D72859}

You can find the other IDs for the other parts of the latest beta applications here on my
blog:

I've been having a similar problem. I was using the previous version of
Messenger, however recently when I tried to sign in it told me I had to
download the newer version to continue. I clicked the 'Yes' button to start
the download, however the progress window did not change at all, and
eventually a message came up saying that the download was unsuccessful, and
that I should visit the site, which I did. However clicking the 'Install'
button here only came up with a Page Load Error, saying 'Address Not Found'.
Eventually I decided to download the new version from another source,
although upon installing, it would not let me sign in, coming up with the
'8000ffff error' ('Signing in to Windows Live Messenger Beta failed because
the service is
temporarily unavailable. Please try again later
Error code: 8000ffff ')
After using a system restore, I downloaded the new version again from a
different source, however this time the programdidn't even seem to install
properly, and Messenger simply stopped running and quit every time I opened
it. So I used a system restore again, and now I'm back where I started, with
Messenger telling me I have to download the new version, but refusing to do
so every time I open it.
Does anybody have any suggestions?
