Live Messenger Sits On Login Screen Endlessly?

I'm having serious issues with my copy of Windows Live Messenger. I'm not sure why, but after having problems watching some video stuff I downloaded, I'm having problems with messenger. Basically, Creative Mediasource does this, it crashes and closed the net connection, but I restarted after that.

The problem: Windows Messenger (the one that came with XP) works fine. Only Live Messenger is failing like this.

Greetings Carrie,

I assume the two Messenger buddy's are just spinning around endlessly? If so, shut down
Messenger entirely by right-clicking on its icon in the notification area and choosing Exit,
then download and run this .reg file:
http://messenger.jonathankay.com/dow...grsettings.reg

Then try signing in again.

Hey everyone, I got mine to work!!!! I dont know what worked, so I will list
everything I did today.

1. Installed the NEW Internet Explorer v7 and then followed that up with an
update

2. Found a thread posted today (this thread) and the mod put a link to add
a registry entry below:

http://messenger.jonathankay.com/dow...grsettings.reg

3. Downloaded Live Messenger 8, most recent version and attempted to install
it. At the end of the install, got the 1603 error, so I:

4. Used the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility Tool:

http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;290301

5. Used the link again after cleanup for reg entry in # 2

6. Installed Live Messenger v8 without any problems and rebooted liked it
asked. After rebooted, it asked for my password and it connected right away.
If you have alot of other stuff running in the startup, might take a little
longer to connect.

Hope this helps alot of people. Good LUCK to ALL!!!!!!

Thanks Jonathan! I've had the same problem for the past two days. I noted in
the live support space that others are experiencing this too, but the first
suggestion I've seen that has fixed it.

Whew...I was having serious messenger withdrawal. The Web messenger just
isn't Live Messenger LOL! Thanks again

Hi,

Yeah, I find the Web Messenger is rather limiting too.

Dude! Awesome! I have been looking for a fix for almost 2 days now. Amazing!
thanks!

This fix should be made a lot more acessable, on a main page somewhere. This
isn't a site that most of my friends would find on thier own, and a lot of
people seem to have this problem. (Would save me a lot of time answering
phonecalls too.)

Extremely nice fix! But like others said, this page should get more
attention than it does. I struggled to find the msn help forums. I even got
to the Messenger support BLOG space first

this site is really great.
