Hey All,
I never post, but I'm just hoping my Results help others having this issue.
I'm running AMD Athlon 64x2dual 4200+ on
Windows XP Professional ver 2002, w Service Pack 2.
I wound up personally doing a full retreat back from Windows Live Messenger
8 and going back to MSN 7.
My Windows Live Messenger 7.5 was working fine for months, but I started
getting similar errors for 8000378 & 81000378, cannot read contact list, not
sure if a virus/link caused it, but I removed WLM 7.5 and Installed 8.0.
After that WML 8.0 would not load, kept crashing about 15 seconds in,
showing the contact list & x# of emails I had, then it failed and immediately
closed.
I followed most of the developer suggestions.
Most of them did not work because they were for Vista and not XP.
Using Add/Remove Programs from the Control Panel,
I UNINSTALLED All Windows Live components (Installer/Live Messenger 8, etc),
Adobe Flash Player ActiveX, any Java,
and also Messenger Plus! which was something I use and thought might be an
issue, but wound up not mattering: Messenger Plus! Live & Sponsor (CiD)
(I kept my users and script though)
So from that post by Anand I reinstalled everything : MSN Messenger 7.0.0820
now available for Windows XP posted by Anand

I hope this helps out a few others, its dissapointed I had to retreat from
Windows Live Messenger when my 7.5 was working just fine up until all those
erros kicked in.
I have no plans to watch for a patch to XP for 8.0 at all, I will avoid
installing it for a very long time I would say.
Best of luck to everyone on Vista and different OS',
but this retreat may be your remedy.
cheers
