Live Messneger E-mail notice fail

Hi,
My system: Win XP, Norton, IE7
I recently updated my Live messenger. ever since then my E-mail notification
pop up keeps failing. The symptom is: e-mail notification pops up only if I'm
using hotmail. It does not notify me other times.(which it did before this
update) I made sure my option is set to "notify me for new e-mails". I did
re-set that option by unchecking a box and re-checking again just to be sure.
(I restarted my PC as well)
Any solution to this? Thank you!

Greetings Meg,

By "using Hotmail" do you mean only when the website is active? Or do you mean when using a
Hotmail Windows Live ID? If the latter, that's is how it's always worked.
