On my desktop (XP Prof): after I was 'forced' to upgrade msgr from 7.5 to
8.1, not only losing all of my custom emotion icons, but I cannot add any
image files (including display picture, background and emotion icons!).

I did tons of research and finally experiment with my new laptop (with
Vista); I found that there was a Windows update that caused the problem - The
"MSXML Parser 4.0/6.0". Once I remove it from Add/Remove Program, I saw all
my lost emotion icons and able to add any image files.

However, when there was another new Windows update downloaded and installed
on my laptop, the msgr problem re-occurred again! I have to remove the
updates and now disable all Windows updates!

I don't want to disable all Windows updates in the long run but if i don't,
my msgr will not function well. Any clue?? Any solution??

Besides, I cannot get my msgr on my desktop working because I have .NET
framework 2.0, SQL Server 2005 and other applications running on it so I
cannot risk to remove any updates.

Desperately need help!!

Thanks a bunch in advance!!

Me too! I've files a support request but the communications are becoming less
frequent. For some reason they get stuck on whether there's a firewall in
operation, though I must admit that my installation at home worked fine. I
suspect this is a common problem.
