When live messenger starts up, it auto sends messages to all contacts on-line
with an attachment about a picture, or new hair colour..
Is anyone else getting this?
How can this be removed?

Greetings,

Unfortunately there's millions of variants of these kind of Messenger viruses. Although
generally they're all just a rogue process running when you can find in Task Manager, locate
it's file, terminate and then delete yourself.

If you can't find it, you might want to try some anti-virus tools, like the OneCare scan:
