Live OneCare Update - very annoyed!

My windows Live OneCare will not update.
I tired several times. I get this message:

A required update to Windows Live OneCare could not be downloaded to your
computer. Click this balloon for more information and to troubleshoot.

The infromation this offers is reboot and retry. Which I did several times
before coming here.

Going to Windows Live OneCare Help and Support takes me to a place where I
am told I can choose between e-mail, chat, and telephone support. When I get
there it does not give me the chat option. When I try the e-mail option I am
asked for my product ID number. The link "How to find your product
identification number?" produces an HTTP 403 error, and when I enter my
product ID obtain from Help|About in the Windows Live OneCare window I am
told that this product ID is not valid for the country I've entered. I
therefore am unable to e-mail my problem to Microsoft Help.

First - someone at Microsoft, fix this string of screw-ups.

Second - how do I get the Windows Live OneCare update to download and
install properly.

Third - someone at Microsoft has to figure out that reboot your computer and
retry is not remotely close to a complete set of suggestions for an obviously
common problem.

A1 & A2. MS has made web-forums available for OneCare support and questions.
This newsgroup is not related to these forums nor are they available via
newsgroups.

Windows Live OneCare Forums
http://forums.microsoft.com/windowso....aspx?siteid=2

A3. How have you determined it's a "common problem"?

I had the same issue and tried everything to fix it. Eventually had to
uninstall and reinstall Live OneCare. No issues since.

I TOTALLY AGREE. I am just recently having THE IDENTICAL PROBLEMS. I HAVE
tried to Uninstall OneCare and it will not uninstall itself. I download
Microsoft's Removal tool--still did not help. I went to the help site, and
the same thing happens to me, I can only communicate through email. I heard
from one tech who told me to take screen shots of my error messages and send
them to her.

Well, I did that IN DETAIL, sending 12 screen shots, FOUR DAYS AGO, and
still have YET to hear anything. I am paying money for something that is
putting my system at risk, SOMEONE AT MICROSOFT, HELP ME. My case number is:
1037624946

There is a FAQ list for OneCare update issues posted on the forum here -

The above forum is where you can discuss OneCare.

Mike, if the database deletion tool is not fixing it for you and the *only* fix
so far has been to reinstall, you really need to open a support case. The Google
tools are not a problem, but there may be something out of kilter with your
system that is blocking updates from happening. When you contact support, you'll
likely get a canned response of everything you've already tried. Please respond
and ask for the problem to be escalated as you've spent a fair amount of time
trying to resolve it already. You can sign on with your LiveID used for your
subscription at http://support.windowsonecare.live.com to see your support
options.

If you got that message, you may ahve signed in with a different LiveID than the
one you are subscribed with.
Open OneCare, click Help/About to see your subscription status and LiveID used
to subscribe. You can also reach support by clicking Help in OneCare, and in
Instant Support, type "contact support" without the quotes.

Yes, updates need BITS.
