Just if you're wondering... when you sign into Messenger, it connects to the Messenger web
service to download configuration information specific to your Passport/Windows Live ID. One
of these things is the Spaces icon -- if it can't connect to the web service, then the icon
won't show up.
So, when you rebooted, it reconnected to the web service and therefore shows you the icon.
