Nissi1,
1. Glad it's working again with the removal of Gmail 2. Most of us call messages sent to either the nttp or web forum to this newsgroup 'posts' rather than emails since they are not processed via a mail server. 3. When problems arise with WLM, compaction is a good idea, even if it fixes nothing, it may provide the ability to rule out corruption of the index or orphan messages. 4. One Care -ugh...some have had good luck with it. With the product being discontinued, MSE(Microsoft Security Essentials) may be a option in the future. 5. Yes, I gathered that 'hope' but alas it won't And Nissi1, You are always welcome. The same wishes to you and your loved ones. I appreciate the kind thoughts. -- ....winston MS-MVP[Mail] "Nissi1" <> wrote in message news:en$... > Good evening, > > To answer your questions: > > 1. No,
I meant what I said.. Pop3(not Http) in this specific case and specifically to ensure that no messages were lost(locally) even if they remained on the web interface. Normally you would be correct on it being a mistake(since Http folders and messages aren't deleted from the server). Nissi1's an old friend(lol...and one on my network) and I wanted to ensure that messages were backed up to preclude any possibility of 'remove the account' applying to any existing messages being removed before suggesting an account(any type) removal. I can't count the number of PM's I've received(from all over the planet) from folks saying they deleted messages from their http account in WLM prior to account removal when trying to resolve mail issues(that were server, LiveID, other account, or configuration related) -- ....winston MS-MVP[Mail] "Ron Sommer" <> wrote in message news:uNW$Wy#... > I was going to reply and say that Nissi1 solved the problem with the other accounts by removing the Gmail account, then I noticed > that you made a mistake. :-) > > http(not pop) should be reversed. > -- > Ron Sommer > MS MVP-Mail > > "...winston" <> wrote in message news:#... >> Three questions. >> 1. Good morning Winston,
I am grateful for the "extra" information you always provide. 1. This is the second time I experienced problems with the Gmail account in WLM. Last month while searching through my modem's setup, I discovered the firewall did not have any security by default. I changed this to "medium" security which affected Gmail's ability to send and receive emails in WLM. Fortunately, only that account was affected. I posted this problem in the Newsgroup also, although at the time I did not know the medium security on my modem's firewall was the culprit. Just out of the blue, one day I checked my modem again and discovered daily logs of Alerts. Someone from another forum determined it had to do with the firewall so I reset it back to its default setting. When I checked Gmail it was its old self again. 2. The first time I posted in this Newsgroup someone informed me "post" was not the correct term when referring to a Newsgroup. I forgot the term I was told to use, which is why I wrote "email" instead of "post". (Did not want my hands spanked. :-)) This individual was kind enough to compile a small list of proper terms to use for Newsgroups. I am sorry to say I no longer have that list. Thank you for the information. 3. I will remember this. 4. My OneCare subscription expired on the 4th of this month, at which time Microsoft extended my subscription for 6 more months, free. Below is an excerpt from their email: "Because OneCare will be discontinued in late 2010, we are no longer taking renewals. However, since you are a valued OneCare customer, we are extending your subscription for 6 months free of charge. NO ACTION IS REQUIRED. YOUR CREDIT CARD WILL NOT BE CHARGED." I am quite satisfied with OneCare and would have renewed my subscription had OneCare not been discontinued. But it gives me an extra sense of security to know you approve of Microsoft Security Essentials since I will be using it next. 5. True, true, true. Yes, we are a part of each other's network. But whenever I think of how that came about, I either laugh at myself or shake my head in embarrassment. (lol) May God continue to richly bless you and yours, my friend. -- "...winston" <> wrote in message news:e#... Nissi1, 1. Glad it's working again with the removal of Gmail 2. I have a similar "messages stuck in outbox" problem from time to time.
It may be caused by some failure to move a sent message from outbox, so that a "zomby" remains there and it blocks further sends or receives. When you see this happening, just go to outbox and try to open messages there. If there is an error opening a message, this is likely a zomby. Just delete them, and send/receive will resume.
