Hello Driver Loading Experts:

On Windows XP, is it possible to load a kernel driver from a location other
than \Windows\System32\drivers?

Thanks in advance.

Anywhere under %SystemRoot% should be ok.
Locations outside of %systemroot% can fail in various situations.

Yes, but not at the boot time.

No one asked the important question. WHY? You may be able to use anyone of
several directories especially on the boot and/or system drive(s), but WHY?
I think Microsoft is discouraging the use of other directories, IIRC. It
will probably work on Windows 7 too, but you forfeit some system
protections.
