Jeff,
Are you installing it via Automatic Update, Windows Update, the entire
downloaded SP2 package, or from a CD ?
Suggest you either download the entire package
http://go.microsoft.com/?LinkID=806688
or order the CD.

Have you contacted your Internet Provider to see if the DSL modem needs
an updated driver ?
Have you checked for an updated driver for the Network Adapter ? To find
out who the manufacturer is, right click My Computer either on the
Desktop or on the Start Menu, choose Manage.
Click on Device Manager in the left frame.
Click the plus sign next to Network Adapters.
The manufacturer of the NIC should be listed there plus the specific
model number.
Then go to the manufacturer's web site and check to see if there is an
updated driver for it.
If so, install it prior to installing SP2.
