I installed sp2 with all updates and it disabled my network connection
to my dsl modem, tried to create another broadband connection in the control
panel/network connections and use the setup with login and password but it
will not create it. I have tried several times to install sp2 and it
completly wipes out my dsl connection and cannot bring up the logon dialoge
box. I restore and it all comes back, which actual update will do this? I
want to update to SP@ for XP HOme edition but not if it disables my LAN/local
area connection

any help would be appreciated!

Jeff,

Are you installing it via Automatic Update, Windows Update, the entire
downloaded SP2 package, or from a CD ?

Suggest you either download the entire package
http://go.microsoft.com/?LinkID=806688

or order the CD.

Have you contacted your Internet Provider to see if the DSL modem needs
an updated driver ?
Have you checked for an updated driver for the Network Adapter ? To find
out who the manufacturer is, right click My Computer either on the
Desktop or on the Start Menu, choose Manage.
Click on Device Manager in the left frame.
Click the plus sign next to Network Adapters.
The manufacturer of the NIC should be listed there plus the specific
model number.
Then go to the manufacturer's web site and check to see if there is an
updated driver for it.
If so, install it prior to installing SP2.
