Localized version - where it all is?

Hi,
I just would like to ask how we can get the full functionality of the Live
Messenger? We have only "Search" item in Activities; Solitaire, Bejeweled
and Minesweeper in Games and the only tab in main window is the contact
list!

Also there is no "Show contacts details" option...

Is this the messenger you use? Even using the US download version did not
helped, the only difference I see that the contact list is actually shown as
a tab...

How can I enable all the cool stuff all of you see and use?

Jan, Czech Republic

PS: I understand that some services may not apply in our country, but come
on, we have almost anything! How can I work out suggestions for features, if
I don't have any already available?

Greetings,

The localization is actually based on your Passport/Windows Live ID locale -- not the actual
language version that you have.

So, if you change your locale at the following URL to the US, you'll get all the
functionality:
https://account.live.com/EditProf.aspx

And yes, I agree this isn't very good.

Hi Jonathan,
thank you for reply. This is definitely answer for my question.... however
are there any plans to change this behaviour?

Thanks,
Jan

Maybe I'll change the question a little bit, what can I do to enable similar
services in our region? I don't mean as a pc user through settings, I mean
as a developer, or as a part of the local Live community. I am able to write
service which will display a local wheather forecast or list of upcoming
concerts or movies for example, but it doesn't seem aynbody is interested
in.

This is as the local services are concerned. What I do not understand, why
the games and activities are not available in all regions?

If I can do anything about improving messenger in our region, let me know, I
certainly would like.

Hi Jan,

There's no plans to change this behavior, the local MSN partners like it too much.

There's a process involved in getting something into the other locales involving a legal
process, language translation of course and culture research. For instance, the Minesweeper
flags game could offend those in countries where landmines are sadly in existence. Indeed
this is why the Minesweeper game in Vista now has a "flower garden" option.

Also, some activities are sponsored by a certain company and they're only targeting a
specific locale so they don't show up anywhere else.

So, really it's not something anyone can really help out with

Well that means I must become a MSN partner to be allowed to extend the
messenger? Do I have to pay for it?

Hi Jan,

Actually no, you can make P4 (activities) using the public API and have them integrated into
Messenger via the Live Gallery (http://gallery.live.com).

However, to actually get them on the Activities list itself you have to be a partner and yes
you have pay.
