Where are automat updates d/l to? XP SP2 was auto d/l but I cancelled the
installation. Even though it's not installed, I'd like to delete it from
wherever it's "sitting". I've looked all over my pc & read tons of links but
can't locate it.
Does anyone know please?

Thanks~

Thanks Jim! That solved the problem on my desktop. Now I tried to remove it
from my laptop but didn't see it in Add/Remove (e4ven though I checked "show
updates". Got a link from one of the discussions here:

http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;875350

& started trying. Didn't show up in Add/Remove in CP, typed
c:\windows\$NtServicePackUninstall$\spuninst\spuni nst.exe
in Run & got message that "Windows cannot find
c:\windows\$NtServicePackUninstall$\spuninst\spuni nst.exe".
Ok, so moved on to System Restore & will do it that way. My question is....I
installed SP2 on Sept 1 & Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer
for Windows XP Service Pack 2 (KB834707) on Oct. 14. I "assume" that by
rolling back to August 30, hus removing SP2, I won't need to reinstall
KB834707. Am I correct?

Thanks so much! Everyone is so helpful here!

Mia,

Rolling your system back that far is not really a good idea. Go to
Folder Options in the Control Panel and click on the View tab.
Scroll down and put a mark next to " Show hidden files and folders ".
Check in A/R in the CP to see if XP SP2 is listed.

Open Windows Explorer from Start | Programs | Accessories.
Navigate to the Windows directory and look for
$NtServicePackUninstall$\spuninst\spuninst.exe
If it's not there then you may have chosen not to archive your previous
version of Windows. If this is the case you will have to reformat and
then reinstall.

Thanks MowGreen! SP2 isn't there.....just the fixes from Oct. 14. Maybe I'll
"work" w/SP2, make a few adjustments as I think that would be better than a
reformat. SP2 hasn't caused me major issues....just runs extremely slow now
w/occ freezes.
Thanks again!

Addendum!
I "zoned" about the Windows Explorer info you gave so I checked it out.
Found folder named $NtServicePackUninstall$. Inside is a sub called spuninst
which in turn contains a Service Pack 2.asms & a text doc. Can't find an exe
anywhere.
Not sure what this means...??

Open the "text doc" for further clues. It appears as though SP2 is not
installed correctly. Go to Start, Run, type in

winver

Click OK. Post back with the info.

Ok...went to "Run", typed in "winver" & About Windows popped open:
MS
Version 5.1 (Build 2600.xpsp_sp2_rtm.040803-2158:Service Pack2)

When I open the previously mentioned text doc, it's in Notepad & quite
lengthy. Example of what is listed:
DEL "c:\program files\common files\system\ado\msado27.tlb"
DEL "c:\program files\common files\system\mui\041e\wab32res.dll"
DEL "c:\program files\internet explorer\iedw.exe"
DEL "c:\program files\internet explorer\mui\041e\browselc.dll"
DEL "c:\windows\servicepackfiles\i386\4mmdat.sys"
DEL "c:\windows\servicepackfiles\i386\access.cpl
COPY "C:\WINDOWS\$NtServicePackUninstall$\ntdetect. com" "c:\\ntdetect.com"
COPY "C:\WINDOWS\$NtServicePackUninstall$\ntldr" "c:\\ntldr"

Mia,

It's installed completely. Unless you chose not to archive the previous
version then you *should* be able to uninstall SP2. What issues with SP2
are you experiencing and, please be specific as to what you were doing
with what when they occurred.

Hi Again,
My laptop started running extremely slow right after installing SP2 (I'm on
DSL). I also started noticing that Explorer would "freeze" up as did other
programs. For example, I would be "parked" on a website & found myself unable
to get out of it. Or I would be using Word & it would freeze. The only way to
get out was to use the Task Mgr (control, alt, delete). Prior to d/l SP2 I
rarely experienced freeze ups & my laptop operated at a good speed. I tried
to improve the speed by using selective startup to eliminate almost
everything from coming on automatically, deleting unnecessary desktop icons
etc but no improvement. Since I use my laptop to work on it started becoming
frustrating hence I decided to remove it. I've run virus etc checks & zilch
so I can only conclude that the lag & other issues are related to SP2.
