Lock up copying files since taking updates

Since taking a number of security updates last Friday, I am unable to copy
files to CD. After a certain time, the system hangs. Various files have been
removed - different orders tried - always hangs somewhere (not always same
file). Anyone have any ideas? I need to back up business files every week,
and now cannot do so - thankyou Microsoft. Using W2K Pro, SP4. Conflicts with
Spy Sweeper maybe? Any suggestions gratefully received.

"IanMW",

I am sorry that you are hitting this issue. This does not seem strictly to be a
Windows Update issue, as the updates downloaded and installed without incident.
Perhaps these other newsgroups would be more helpful, as those who answer
questions on these topics have a greater amount of experience, typically, and
can get you an answer faster.

microsoft.public.win2000.applications
microsoft.public.win2000.file_system
microsoft.public.win2000.general
microsoft.public.win2000.networking

Sincerely,

Pat Walters [MSFT]

Thanks Pat. I think the problem is with a - by now very old - version of
Adaptec CD writer. Presumably some conflict with security patches. The prog
which writes a complete CD - rather than DirectCD - performs fine, so I can
back up my files this way instead. I will have to update ny CD writer
software - know of any good freebies out there?

Thanks Pat. The problem seems to be with a - by now very old - version of
Adaptec CD writer. Presumably some conflict with security patches. The part
of the program that creates a full CD, rather than writes by track, performs
fine, so at least I can back up my files somehow.

Must update my CD writing software - know of any good freebies out there?
