Normal express update is made without problems. When trying to get software
optional updates right hand screen goes back to choose express or custom.
When I press custom, the progress bar runs for a few moments then the page
freezes up and I have to close IE7.

1. Does this behavior persist if you start IE7 in No Add-ons mode?

To start IE7 in No Add-ons mode:

Right-click on the blue IE desktop icon and select Start without Add-ons; or

Start > (All) Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Internet Explorer (No
add-ons).

2. Does the problem persist if you Reset IE7 Settings (RIES)?

3. If you uninstall IE7 (which automatically returns you to IE6), does this
behavior persist?

Thank you, diabling the addins did the trick. Had to individually disable
them, Right clicking did not give me the option to start without addins.

I too am curious as to the culprit! However since I no longer have optional
software to update, I'll have to wait and then remove the add-ons one by
one. BTW, is PA for Penna?

Yes, PA is for Pennsylvania.

This fixed the problem for me but how do I figure out what add-on is the
culprit?
