How to lock Word Processor doc?

So Vista doesn't come with Microsoft Word. o _ O
Instead, there's Word Processor..
and I'm trying to lock a document I have on it, but I can't..
on regular Word, I just go to Tools > Options > Security .. and then
set a password.
I don't see it on Vista's Word Processor.
Anyone know how to lock a Word Processor document?

If you are talking Word Pad I have never heard of a way to do it.

I assume you mean the Word Processor in "Microsoft Works". It's not a part
of Vista, it's seperate product that the computer manufacturer just include
for free.

It does not have the security feature. It is a very basic word processor,
and does not have any where near the features of Microsoft Word, which is
why it was included free with the computer.

Correct. No version of Windows has ever come with Microsoft Word.

No, there's not. Windows comes with Notepad and Wordpad. Neither is
really a word processor; Notepad is a text editor, and Wordpad is just
a glorified text editor.

You need to tell us exactly what you mean by "Vista's Word Processor."
As I said there's no such thing, so you need to clarify exactly what
you are talking about.

I would offer that he is talking about the Word Processor in MS Works.
Several OEMs offer it pre-installed. To the uninitiated it might seem that
it is a part of Vista rather than a separate product bundled with it.

FWIW, AFAICT, it doesn't have the ablility to "lock" documents the way Word
does.

I base my assumption on the fact that he said, "Word Processor" with capital
letters like that's what the screen said. That is what is says at the top
of the sceen in the Works Word Processor. Granted, he should also see the
words "Microsoft Works" and not "Vista".

Notepad says, "Notepad", Wordpad says "Wordpad".

However, even if he meant either one of those, the same advice is still
valid, you can't protect a document in any of them.

OK, that lends support to your guess. I haven't looked at Works in a
long time, and didn't remember that.

Still, as I said, I'd rather not guess. let him tell us.

He may mean none of these. Perhaps he means WordPerfect. Or something
else. I don't know.
