Locking folders in WLM

I gave up using Windows Live Mail shortly after installing it and
setting it up, because of some irresolvable problems, one of which
was inadvertent deletion of complete folders when I intended to delete
only a single message. This confusion was the result of the vague,
blurry highlight scheme. I thought I had a specific message selected
for deletion when I actually had the entire folder selected.

Has MS developed an update that will allow one to lock a folder such
that it can't be inadvertently deleted?

Gordon

No.
Deletions are placed in the Deleted Items folder, which does requires one
to approve the final deletion of the Deleted Items folder contents prior to
completely 'trashing' the contents.

The latest 2011 version is QFE1, the latest 2009 version is QFE3

I think that I know what you mean. You need to open the folder, carefully
select the message which you want to delete and then delete it. Being
careful is the operative word and I have experienced no difficulty with it.
I have WLM 2009.

Wasn't there a popup, warning you of what you were doing? Also, couldn't
you have just restored it from the 'Deleted Items' folder?

No, and no! The whole event was over in a blink and I could find no
way to restore the deleted folder. Gordon

Yes, another factor to leave that option unchecked, especially if
visibility is an issue (it's not at my end).

Fyi...Empty messages from deleted items on exit does not apply to HTTP
accounts (one of the benefits of 'Live' which will continue to be the
primary focus of WLM and other Essential applications)

Sorry,
Anything deleted goes to the deleted items folder. Emptying the deleting
items folder (of deleted messages and deleted folders) in the same instance
of WLM requires confirmation to purge the deleted items folders contents.

If WLM is configured to empty the deleted items folder on exit(applicable
to pop3 accounts) then that setting (toggled off by default) would have
required a user to manually changed that setting to 'on'.

Folders reside in the left pane, messages in the center. To physically
delete a folder one can not inadvertently select a folder in lieu of a
message since they reside in two separate panes.

If one attempts to delete a folder, a pop appears asking "Are you sure you
want to delete the 'XXX' folder and move it to the Deleted items folder? If
Ok'ed the folder remains in the Deleted item folder until the user purges
that folder and its messsages or purged at program close if the user
manually configures the program to do so.

In no case, does deleting a folder disappear in the blink of an eye.
