Lockups after installing Microsoft Updates on 8/9/05

Three of our newer desktops are locking up since installing the latest
Microsoft Updates. They all boot ok, but after one to five hours, the cursor
freezes and they have to be powered off manually. Installed latest released
drivers for mouse, video cards and chipsets but all three still lockup.

All three have Windows XP Pro SP2. Two are Nvidia Nforce2 Ultra 400, one is
an Asus Nforce4 A8N-SLI deluxe with one PCIx video card. Have not checked it
for lockups under XP64bit. The Nforce4 machine is latest released BIOS,
fresh install of XP SP2 32bit, just the OS, no Office installed and no email
setup yet.

Can anyone suggest which of the 8/9/05 updates might be responsible for
this behavior?

I'm having the same exact problem on my desktop machine. It's rediculous.
It's a hard freeze up. I have to turn off the power to get back into windows
and it just freezes again anyway.

Hello,

I'm having the exact same problem. Started right after I updated the
last batch of windows updates. After sitting for a while the machine
locks up and will respond to nothing but a power off/on.

I hope someone figures this out quickly as my computer is critical to
my finishing my graduate studies.

I am having the same issue. In another thread on here someone mentioned they
think its the new driver for the Marvel Gigabit network adapter that they put
on the site. I am waiting to see if more people confirm that before I do
anymore updating.

I recently downloaded the new mouse driver and have had several freezes
requiring a hard boot. I didn't specifically remove old mouse driver (don't
know how). Could this be part of the problem?

Not sure if any mouse drivers are causing similar issues. The only one
related to this lockup seems to have been determined to be the network card
drivers.

I get constant lockups now after the last 2 weeks. I assume it is the driver
updates. And yes it appears to be the networking updates. The only problem
is that I downgraded the network driver (nforce 4 eth) to the previous
version and still get the lockups.

This is on Vista.
