Sony VGN laptop on continuous log off mode till after power down/turn off.
After power up it’s still on log off mode. Tried CTRL/ALT/ESC and
CTRL/ALT/DEL to no avail. Thanks in advance.

This is sometimes due to some driver hanging the system, it also might be a
finicky application not releasing memory. I'd start by trying to boot to
safe mode and having a look at the Event Viewer under Administrative tools
in Control Panel. If you can find an error that coincides with when you
tried to log off, it may give a clue as to the source of the issue.

If you find nothing of substance there, I'd start by checking manufacturer
websites to make sure all drivers are the latest and Vista compatible.

Just had this problem on a Dell Laptop. Last night, I did a standard
shutdown/logoff. And after 10 minutes of waiting for the “Logging Off”
screen to finish, I powered down manually. No hard drive access, and
the battery light was flashing.

This morning, I put the laptop in the docking station and hit the power
button. Same thing, the “Logging Off” screen reappeared…for 30 minutes.
Same thing, no hard drive access, and the battery light was flashing.

According to our service provider, there’s a subprogram in Windows
laptops that switches to battery or the adaptor on house current. And
sometimes it gets confused, stays on battery. And the battery drains
down.

The solution is, with the laptop powered down, to take the battery out
and reinsert it. Then plug it into the adaptor or docking station and
boot. It should boot normally.
