We're running Vista Business on a laptop and the user's profile got
corrupted so we deleted it in the C:\Users folder.

Now every time we try to log back in with that user's name we get a temp
profile with a note that "all changes will be lost". It prompts to check the
event log but there's nothing in there about this problem.

How do I correct this so that Vista will recreate a new user profile for
this user?

Well, I fixed my own problem. I found a registry key with the profiles
listed:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList

Find the SID in here that has the user account you want to reset, then
delete that key.
