Hello

I've got a little provlem with a Vista Home Premium.
A friend of mine forgot his password. he tried his normal passwords severeal
times.

But at the end the login screen did not apear any more. So all I see is an
Black screen with a lonely Mousecursor on it. Any way how the solve this
problem?

I tried the repair mode, but notthing happened.
The Administrator account is disabled ...

Thank you in advice

Read the above on how to rest your password.

Also, tap F8 at power on, and go into Safe mode.

Hello Mick

I allready know this tool.
But after starting I got the following error message:
"unsupported volume flags 0x4000 encountered"
"Mount for NTFS writing Failed"

The solution is to start in safe mode, make a clear shutdown twice and start
the tool again.
But even in Safe mode I didn't see the Login Screen. It's a vicious circle.

All I can enter is the repair Mode but the Administrator and guest accounts
are disabled and the User password is unknown.

Thomas

You may need to try another password removal utility.

You might also consider that there may be some more pronounced problems with
the disk, and in that case, it would be prudent to connect the drive to
another XP or Vista system and back up the data. Taking an image of the
drive is often a good and quick way to do this. You can use the Acronis
TrueImage trial version - it should take under two weeks to fix this.

One thing I have found helped with XP - while you have the drive attached to
the other system, locate the one or two very large files in the root,
pagefile.sys and hiberfil.sys, delete them and clear the wastebasket.
These files will be rebuilt and their absence can sometimes help the machine
boot.

As this version of Vista has "home" in the name, you don't need to worry
about destroying encryption keys.

Hi!
This may be too late, but I have had this exact same problem with my Compaq
laptop. The program works great, but when trying to write back the corrected
blank password, the attributes are set to read only, so the password is not
changed.

When then trying to run a chkdsk to mount everything correctly, I then
needed the Admin password *sigh* which I no longer have, which is the
problem in the first place. I also tried to log out correctly several times,
but this did not work. I finally tried several other programs, and PCLOGIN
did work for me in just a few minutes. I should also mention that my laptop
is running windows Vista.

Hope this saves someone all of the frustration that I have been through in
the last couple of days!
