I have tried every combination that I can think of including removing ALL
logitech registery entries (I do not have any other Logitech devices installed) and that also failed to let the install completly. I can only conclude that the camera is not compatable with my system for some strange reason. My next step is to return the camera and try the MS camera. Thanks for your help. Step 1 run setup (both from CD and Installer from Logitech)
Step 2 setup step 1 plug in camera Step 3 OS does not recognize camera Step 4 Point to driver file (on CD, from earlier version from Logitech and windows update site) Step 5 receive error: "An error occurred during the installation of the device: The driver installation file for this device is missing a necessary entry. This may be because the INF was written for Windows 95 or later. Contact your hardware vendor." Step 6 install fails Remove all temp files, remove ALL Logitech registry entries rerun setup all with the same result. XP home, pro, vista and Windows 7 all recognize camera prior to inserting CD and running setup. Other thoughts? Perhaps you could try this. My understanding is that it also applies to
webcams. Cautionary note: I have not tried the process below. Q: Troubleshooting: Gaming Install Error messages- 'The hardware was not installed because... or ...INF was written for Windows 95 or later.' This article covers troubleshooting instructions if you encounter the following error messages when installing a USB gaming controller. * The hardware was not installed because the wizard could not find the necessary software * The driver installed file for this device is missing a necessary entry. This may be because the INF was written for Windows 95 or later. Contact your hardware vendor. This article applies to the following products: All Logitech USB game controllers This article applies to the following operating systems: Windows XP Windows 2000 Cause Due to a missing Windows file called input.inf, some customers may see one of the two following error messages when connecting or installing a Logitech USB game controller 1. "The hardware was not installed because the wizard could not find the necessary software" 2. "The driver installed file for this device is missing a necessary entry. This may be because the INF was written for Windows 95 or later. Contact your hardware vendor." Solution Extract the INPUT.INF file from a Windows cabinet file. Depending on whether you are using Windows XP or Windows 2000, you will need to follow different methods. The steps for each operating system are described below. 1. Windows XP: In Windows XP, you can use the MSCONFIG utility as described in the following steps: 1. Click Start->Run. 2. Type msconfig in the Open field, and then click OK. 3. Click the Expand File button. 4. Type input.inf in the File to restore box. 5. Type the path of the Windows XP .cab file where you want to restore the file from in the Restore from box. If you don't know the patch, click the Browse From button to locate the Windows XP .cab file. Note: The Windows XP .cab files are stored in the I386 folder on the Windows XP CD. If you cannot find the Windows cab files, please contact your system vendor or Microsoft for assistance. 6. Type C:\windows\inf\ in the Save file in box. This assumes that Windows XP was installed to the default directory. If Windows was not installed to the default directory, you will need to adjust the path to point to the correct directory. 7. Click the Expand button. 8. Click OK. If you are prompted to restart the computer, click Restart. 2. Windows 2000: If you are using Windows 2000, use the Expand utility as described in the following steps to restore the file: 1. Click Start->Run. 2. Type CMD and then click OK. 3. Type EXPAND X:\i386\input.in_ C:\Windows\Inf\input.inf at the command prompt. (X is the drive with the Windows 2000 CD.) 4. Press the Enter key on your keyboard. 5. Restart the computer. After extracting the file and restarting, try installing the gaming software again. You should no longer see this error message. Great thought but that did not work either. I even tried to copy the
input.inf file from a win xp pro, which also failed. There must be some strange setting some where that is causing the issue. "rak" wrote: > Perhaps you could try this.
