It's a little complicated. First you need to add a System Environment
variable:
DevMgr_Show_NonPresent_Devices
and set it's value = 1
This allows Device Manager to show 100% of the devices, including
the Plug-&-Play Phantom/Not-Connected, but known devices in the
current Hardware profile.
Once setup, Open Device Manager, Click "View" and tic/check the
option "Show Hidden Devices". Check for the presence of a category
called "Unknown Devices". This is where devices are placed that are
unknown by their VID identifier string. Report back if you have this
category and the number of entries within it.
