I'm running start up repair for my boot disk and its taking for ever t
fix the files
I had it running for over 10 hours and still going

While I can't give you an exact period of time, 10 hours is way excessive
and indicates that something is really wrong. Since you didn't provide any
information about why you needed to do startup repair or your computer, I
can't give you any specific advice. Possibly your hard drive is failing but
that's only a guess without any data.

Thanks, my problem is windows won't boot and I've tried every repai
option on the repair disk even a new installation!! and nothing works i
justs acts like it's doing something and never stops, I've trie
everything on the recovery partition as well. I have full bios access

I don't think its a hardisk fault because I can use ubuntu (Linux) wit
a boot C

Your reasoning is faulty. Running Ubuntu (or any other Linux Live CD such as
Knoppix) doesn't touch your hard drive. The Live CD runs in memory only.

Your description of the issue definitely sounds like hardware failure. I
would start by testing the hard drive. Test the hard drive with a
diagnostic utility downloaded from the drive mftr.'s website. You will
create a bootable CD with the file you download. You will need third-party
burning software to do this such as Roxio, Nero, or the free CDBurnerXP
Pro. Burn as an image, not as data.

Boot with the CD you made and do a thorough test of the drive. If it fails
any physical tests, replace it.

Just got confirmation from DELL, the harddrive is failed, their sendin
an engineer out tomorrow to fix i
