Dear Steve: I had a much similar problem, and resolved it here, with a
reply to a post suggesting to reset the .dll (dynamic link library) files.
The suggestion was to go to start, then run, and type in the following,
pressing "ok" after each entry: net.exe stop wuauserv regsvr32 /s
wuapi.dll regsvr32 /s wups.dll regsvr32 /s wuaueng.dll
regsvr32 /s wucltui.dll regsvr32 /s msxml3.dll net.exe start
wuauserv This did the trick for me, my v5 update screen stopped
freezing after this fix. I hope it helps.
