Can anyone recommend a worthwhile users manual for VISTA?
I think the HELP facility in VISTA is worthless.

Windows Vista The Missing Manual by David Pogue. I found the 800 page book
helpful. Its written more for users rather than administrators.

Really? That's the one area Microsoft actually improved Windows
offering many more graphics and mini vids embedded within the help.

As far as books, they're all mostly rip offs of what's free in help.
So little point in paying $30, $40 or $50 bucks for a bloated and
often drawn out 600-800 page rehash.

If you must throw money away, titles from O'Reilly generally are
worthwhile. I assume you already know most "manual" type how-to books
are riddled with errors and bad advice.

That's a strange comment. I have found that I would have wasted my money on
Windows Vista the Missing Manual, but it was given to me. Help has
eliminated the references to the published book.

In my opinion, it takes far longer to find the answer in a paperback book
than using Help. One part of the search that I always use is the search
facility. I do a lot of house calls for our computer club. One of my normal
routines is to show users how to use Help.

Don't forget Windows Vista for Dummies,

It's a fun book and does have a lot of useful and helpful hints.

: ) The 'dialectic' of the Socratic Method hasn't changed much in 2600
years. To ask the right question is to already know the answer.
In early OS, like dos and unix, you would type 'help', and it would list the
commands available. The newsgroups are about the only place so far in the
universe where that really works for Vista. The rest is Google, and a well
thought out dialectic.
