Hello Ali and Nicole,

I found this web page about Windows Live Messenger. I found it very
interesting, thank you and all the others connected. I have been having a
problem using MSN/Windows Live Messenger 8.1
and was considering just deleting it all together. Glad I didn't after
finding this help page. Every time I open up Windows Live Messenger it opens
up with a drop down box warning me that
my Adobe Flash Player program is not working right and that I may not be
able to send or recieve files. I have downloaded the flash player several
times as well as deleting Windows Messenger
and re-installing them. Still I have the same problem. I have written to
Tech Support at Microsoft about this and haven't heard anything. I see on
this page "Vista and Messenger 8.1 Beta
the client was prone to crash. I still highly recommend you update your
flash player if you haven't already. But if not we have put in and an extra
safety measure
(disable features that use flash and provide you a way to upgrade) to
eliminate the flash crash." Mine does not say Beta but does crash every time
I open it.

I would have put an image of what I have been getting when I open up the
program but don't know how to add an image here Also on your description
here how is it that you are able to add all the icons such as: I'm, mobile
and so on. I tried following your suggestions and I couldn't get it to work
right. Thanks for your help. I think you are my last resort.

Thomas

you can upload an image to http://imageshack.us

and then post the link towards the images..

Posting images as attachments on newsgroups is not a good idea.

Hello Kirk Jim,
Thanks that answers the part about uploading an image for hotmail and here.
Still need help please on the rest of my question in regards to Adobe Flash
Player crashing. And about the icons. I think they may be called emotionicons?
Finally, the name Kirk Jim has got to be a nickname? or just do I call you
Capt.? LOL

Thanks again,
THOMAS

Thomas and all,
I have a new notebook with Vista Home Premium. I also get the message to
upgrade the flash player. Have done it several times successfully but the
message still pops up each time I sign on. Windows Live Messenger opens, it
appears to be working, I can go to my hotmail using it but it isn't
recognizing when my contacts are on line. Where's this "extra safety
feature" that's mentioned?

1) Install the very latest version of live messenger (its not beta anymore)
see screenshot for latest version
http://img238.imageshack.us/img238/2...enshot1zg2.jpg

2) Use the flash uninstaller to uninstall flash player.. Then restart, then
use the installer to install the
latest version of flash again

Download both installer and uninstaller here
http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/alternates/

Also please tell me if you are using XP or Vista....

Because some problems with flash and vista have caught my eye, although I
personaly did not have any issues with vista, messenger and flash.

I like Captain better, although my rank is Admiral :-)

Hello Kirk Jim,
Boy I must be batting a 100% here! I wrote you a letter in a reply to you
only to discover that it didn’t save or print my letter! So I writing once
again to you and hopefully all my thoughts and words will be in this letter
as before.

Again thanks Captain for your help, it was real Admiral of you! Hehehe  I
did as you suggested and deleted the Adobe Flash Player from my computer. I
also deleted the Windows Live Messenger too. Preferring to start brand new on
all downloads. In what order should I download, Adobe first them Windows Live
Messenger or visa versa? Also can you please explain to me what the
difference is between the two programs of MSN Messenger and Windows Live
Messenger? I see that you can download either program from the Internet.
Which is best? Or is there a difference? I really appreciate the help you
have been giving to me. Perhaps when this is over Ali or you can explain
about the icons that are shown in the article written by Ali on March 12
titled “Looking at my contacts from every angle” at
http://messengersays.spaces.live.com/ and how I can make mine as she shows. I
tried and didn’t have any luck. Thanks again!

Thomas

Hello,
Thank you for the helpful information. I did as suggested and all is well
now. Found out too that the Current version of Windows Live Messenger is
different then the version I had had. Much better.
Thanks again,
Thomas
