I'm having the same issue following my upgrade to Live Messenger 2009 on a
Windows XP SP3 machine. I am behind a corporate firewall. Windows Messenger
2008 remained connected with no issues on this same machine. I'm able to
sign in to WLM 2009 but then it disconnects me almost immediately (1 to 2
seconds) and starts the countdown to reconnect. It populates contact
information and availability for that brief connection so it appears that it
is fully connected, however briefly. Each subsequent connection is
successful for the same 1 to 2 seconds then disconnects and starts the
countdown again. I've disabled the local firewall service and local virus
scanning/malware scanning. No change. I installed Windows Live Messenger
2009 on a separate Windows Vista Business machine and it produces the exact
same issue (connects 1 to 2 seconds and disconnects). One interesting thing
I noted was that following the initial install, the WLM 2009 client remained
connected with no issues. The issue starts the first time you fully exit the
WLM 2009 application and restart it. On the Vista machine I also notice that
the client launch is accompanied by a browser window launch. Both are shut
down within the 1 to 2 seconds. There don't appear to be any associated
events in the Event viewer. The WLM 2009 log file is too large for a novice
like me to parse. Any help would be appeciated. Thanks.
