Losing DSL Connection

For the past few days I've been having trouble with my DSL internet
connection; I also notice that though I keep my Norton AntiVirus default
setting to always on, when I restart - trying to restore my DSL - the
antivirus keeps coming back as disabled.

I'm guessing that the problem began after a Windows Installer 3.1 update cuz
the only way I can restore my DSL connectivity is to do a system restore to
last week. And last night, even though I could connect, during the first
couple of hours the transfer was painfully slow as though I had a dial-up
again.

Anyone else experiencing this?

If your AV is being turned off, I'd suspect a virus... Next, I'd suspect malware/spyware

This is a link to a small FREE program by McAfee Anti-virus named "Stinger".
It will scan your system for 53 known viruses and trojans and repair them.
You don't need McAfee anti-virus installed on your computer... this is a
stand alone program. http://vil.nai.com/vil/stinger/
Direct download: http://download.nai.com/products/mca...rt/stinger.exe

Microsoft provides free anti-virus software that can be used for 1 year.

NOTE: After you install the above, click "Online" and get the latest updates for the database.
Update it regularly for new spy info.

Dang, Unk! Thanks for all the great info. The Time-Warner/RoadRunner people
seem to think it may be my modem that's the problem so I'm gonna swap it out
and see what happens.

But I'm sure to use your Stinger even as a backup to my Norton AntiVirus
just to be sure. Heck, I thought it did it's own updates but once I got on
line again, I did the LiveUpdate and it took off for several minutes
updating. So we'll see.....

Thanks again, Unk!
