losing Internet Explorer when it is closed

When I close IE (or FF for that matter) it won't open again until I log off,
and log back on. I can then open it. Any thoughts on why this is happening?
I am running Vista Premium. It worked fine up until this week.

The application isn't fully terminating, so it can't restart. As this
affects multiple web browsers, I'd suspect a plugin/addon common to both.
Try running IE in no addon mode, see if it stops and starts ok to confirm
it. Just type 'internet explorer' into the start/search line and one of the
menu options should be this one. If it starts, stops, and restarts ok, then
the issue is most assuredly a plugin. You will then need to begin disabling
those that load with the browser (tools/manage addons for IE, check help
files for FF) until the problem corrects itself.
