For the third time today, when I reboot my computer, most of my user profile
is lost. Desktop preferences (icons, backgrounds, etc.) as well as app
specific info, such as Firefox preferences and add-ins, are lost. Everything
else seems okay.

Consumer Release of Vista Ultimate

Weird.

Are you loosing data files or just settings?

I'd make sure that you have the latest Vista logo Display Drivers installed.
Also, create a second Admin or User account and see if it is doing it there
as well.

Just the settings. And since the original post, I rebooted a few times - and
the original settings reappeared. Very strange. Everything is up-to-date.
Thanks for your help.

I've tried twice to reply to this... My messages never seem to post.

When this happens, do you get a message saying that Windows can't load your
profile, and that a temporary one is being created?

If so, I'm having this exact same problem. Have since November. I opened a
case with MS tech support last week to try to resolve it. No solution yet.
