Hello,

When I open ActiveSync it shows a connected status (Dell Axim X5 plugged
into its cradle) with an account called Guest. Most areas are greyed out
including Sync. When opening Tools>Options only the Rules tab is
available. I cannot change any settings under this tab either. I
followed these trouble shooting steps below:

1. To name your partnership something other than Pocket_PC, do so
now on the device To name your partnership something other than
Pocket_PC, do so now on the device

2. Do NOT connect your Pocket PC to your sync cable or cradle Do
NOT connect your Pocket PC to your sync cable or cradle

3. If you can attach your cable or cradle to a power cable, do so
and plug in the cable If you can attach your cable or cradle to a power
cable, do so and plug in the cable

4. Start ActiveSync on your desktop by clicking the icon Start

and would like to continue syncing with that computer, select No, I want

25. Do not disconnect your Pocket PC until it is synchronized Do

This actually corrected the problem. It seem to synchronize and I could
gain access to the files on the Pocket PC. The issue came back because
once the Pocket PC was removed from the cradle and re-inserted the Guest
account came back. This time I attempted this fix and it will not work
now. I uninstalled the ActiveSyc app and removed registry keys along
with the Microsoft ActiveSync folder, which was left by the uninstall
program. I'm not sure where to go now and asking if any assistance could
be given?

Thank you,

Boris

Also since I attempted the troubleshooting procedure again it now shows
No Partnerships when the device is not in the cradle. I also recently
upgraded to ActiveSync 3.7.1. with the same results.

Best regards,

Boris

Try some of the suggestions at
http://www.cewindows.net/faqs/activesync/guest.htm - if none of them
work, you may want to backup your Pocket PC and try a hard reset and
see if that fixes the problem (don't restore from the backup after the
hard reset - but be sure to back up your My Documents directory
separately to a storage card or to the desktop computer).

Hello Mr. Borek,

I appreciate your expedient response and I was able to resolve the
issue. A soft reset repaired the problem! I followed the instructions
from Dell's website. In case any else has this problem here is the site
for Dell Axim 5 Handhelds:

Best regards,

Boris
