I have tried a number of searches on Google but have not found the solution.
Vista Home Premium.
Sound worked very well on this PC for several weeks. Couple of days ago
- nothing. No sound regardless what I do.
Volume is up on the speakers
The external speakers are on (the indicators are lit)
Volume is up on Media Player and all other media apps.
Volume is up on Volume Mixer - under REALTEK HDMI OUTPUT I can see the
volume bar bouncing when I have media playing.
I can hear tones for keystrokes such as CAPS LOCK.
If I plug a headset into the PC jack - still no volume.
I have not changed any apps nor cables on the PC AFAIK.
What am I missing?

Additional
Control panel|Sound|Sounds - when I test a window sound, nothing
happens. CAPS LOCK, however, still gives a beep.

With MoBo sound, and a custom application the drivers will
automatically be switched to headphone. Try opening the
sound control, and check the output from the software
drivers. If it says headphones and the meter is in use under
the headphone item, you will need to select the speakers in
the system control as well and poke into their properties
page and tabs in order to make a full switch to speaker routing.

If Help and Support procedures don’t fix it, contact your computer
manufacturer and see if there is an issue between your computer model and
SP1. Check the computer manufacturer’s website for update drivers/BIOS that
may solve that issue.
