Greetings Jerome,

As a starting point, head over to http://contacts.live.com, sign in using your Windows Live
ID and at least verify that your contacts are still there.

I have exactly the same problem. All contacts appear in live.com but not in
messenger. However, in Messenger I can see my contacts when I click "edit
contacts" otherwise not.
Appreciate you help.

Karsten

I would email support and hopefully the more Microsoft knows it's a problem
and the more people email in they will fix it.

Go t
http://help.live.com/Help.aspx?marke...YouNeed.htm#mh
and on the bottom right click on Get more help then click on
get support and that will allow you to get email support.

Other links about the problem

Support(EMAIL SUPPORT) asked me for my logs I gave them mine to try to help.
As far as giving any logs to anyone else I wouldn't but thats just me.

This might be the result of a fundamental difference between the
earlier and latest version of WL Messenger.

In its earlier versions, Messenger imported the complete contact
list from the underlying email account on the central server at
Microsoft. Having imported the contact list, WL Messenger
displayed the name and email address of EVERY contact, including
those contacts where the IM field is blank.

In the latest version, Messenger seems to filter the contact
list - and only displays those contacts that have been designated
as IM contacts. In other words, WL Messenger seems to suppress
the names of any contacts, where the IM field on the central
server is blank or does not contain a valid address.

The OP should use WL Mail or a web browser to view the contact
list and check that the IM field on the central server has been
completed for the missing contact names.

That's what I did. Back 8.1 Great!

But then I was told I HAD to upgrade, so I did again, hoping the issue had
been fixed. I had to delete my hosts file in order to log on but again my
contacts list, while there, does not show up in messenger. So Messenger is
now useless.

I found the page at
http://windowslive.uk.msn.com/messen...ntid=148525172

which said I should delete the contacts held on my computer. With some
trepidation but having nothing to lose, I followed the instructions and
deleted both sets it refers to. I am running XP Pro, by the way, but Vista
instructions are there too.

I restarted Messenger and guess what? My contacts ARE STILL MISSING!!

Hi Patrick.

I work on the Live Messenger Team and would like to try and isolate this
problem. Our support team hasn’t had much luck setting up a customer that
can repro this issue AND can allow me to do Remote Assistance on their
machine.

Please shoot me a mail at as I'd like to look at your
machine directly to try and diagnose the problem.
Thanks.
Nick H.
Windows Live Messenger Team.

Nic,

I have the same issue - Upgraded to Version 2009 (Build 14.0.8089.726)
yesterday and can see my contacts on my MSN Pocket PC but cannot see them on
my laptop. I get kicked out of Version 2009 (Build 14.0.8089.726) when I
connect with my pocket PC so I'm pretty sure I'm not using the wrong account
or anything (I felt I was because at first it logged me in under my domain
account but I signed off and back in under my normal msn id.)

Thanks,,
Skye
