Two types of contacts are available in WLM
1. Default(no Live ID used to sign on to Windows Live)
2. Live ID(contacts unique to that Live ID and only available when that Live ID is used to sign on to Windows Live)
a. Contacts can be imported into either option in WLM using a wab file
b. Contacts can be imported into either option in WLM using a csv file
If using a Live ID, contacts can be imported in the web interface using a csv file(wab is not permitted).
To import your contacts in the web interface, logon with that Live ID at contacts.live.com, click Manage/Import and choose the
appropriate application that created the csv file(If OE, choose Outlook Express)
Groups are only imported using (a)
To sync with Live(ie. sync between WLM and the web) a Live ID must be used in WLM. The sync will occur(up or down) between the Live
ID used in WLM and the web UI. Contacts and Calendar sync with the Live ID.
Note: Setting up a Live ID email address account in WLM does not sync. Signing on with a Live ID in WLM does.
Contacts in C:\Users\your name\Contacts are not Windows Live Contacts. Contacts in that folder are not used by Windows Live Mail.
That folder is unique to Windows Contacts in Vista(used by Windows Mail) and also present in Windows 7, but only for backward
compatibility. Nothing imports to that location when importing in WLM or the web UI.
Note: The contact limit for a Hotmail account(based on earlier posts in the Hotmail Support online help appears to be 1000,
whether that has changed(up or down) or not I don't know...my max in any Hotmail account is less than that number. I do recall at
one time 500 being the upper limit). I do have contacts lists greater than 500, but restrict those to use in Outlook(not Outlook
Express).
Good luck.
