Lost Files at Restart

A friend called and told me that recently he has been losing documents
whenever he restarts his laptop which uses Vista. His older documents
remain in place, but he loses recently-added photos, etc., when he
turns off the laptop. He has had the laptop almost a year, and only
recently came upon this problem, which he has temporarily solved by
saving his files on an SD card.

I am wondering if this is a common problem with Vista? I have only
used XP and never came across anything like this. Any input will be
appreciated.

Hi,

No, it's not common and certainly should not be happening. Did he install
any cleaner products? Something that protects the system from unwanted
changes? Has he noticed any changes to the startup sequence?

Thanks for the prompt response. I will ask my friend these things
when I can. I apologize for being vague- my friend Alan is actually
in Brazil and it was in a long distance phone call that he mentioned
his computer problems.

But your questions are very helpful. Helps me to narrow down what's
going on there... I really had no idea in which direction to go in
solving his problem - since I have never encountered such (and do not
have a laptop or Vista experience and can't even access the computer
in question).

I will update regarding the situation as soon as I can.

Gratefully, Grizel

The way you describe the prob of lost photos, is that it is a problem of
WHERE he/she is saving the photos to, not Vista deleting them!

Start>Search for where they are.
