Lost product key

I have a windows Xp pro upgrade disc which I used on my newer machine. This
machine was damaged when my home was flooded. My insurance didnt cover the
loss of this machine, so i have had to get my old back-up system from the
attic. Unfortunately it was running 98se which I would like to upgrade using
my XP disc, however the product key was irreperably damaged beyond
legibility. Now I cannot recover the product key to install this upgrade.
ANY ideas would be appreciated. Thanks

There many products out on the market to Show you your Key...this is just one

I too Lost my Installation CD Key for my XP OS...I just use one of these
utilties to show me the hidden key already on the cd...

This product 'DOES NOT' show you the key on the 'CD', because there is no
key on the CD. It will show you the key on a given system already running
on a computer. But, why pay for that, when all you have to do is download a
free copy of 'AIDA32' and install it. Then go to the operating system tab
and read the product key. You can use 'any' copy of XP to install on any
computer, you just need a 'fresh' key to put into it in order to get it
authenticated. The keys are 'never' on the CD.
