Using a Netgear wireless router and a USB DLink adapter
on one machine. All was working fine, then I upgraded
and it shows the network but won't allow to connect. I
have MS Firewall disabled and double checked my Norton
firewall. Advise please...

Thanks.

I have the same issue with my dell laptop. Had a wireless network working
fine with a Linksys wireless router, Compaq desktop and dell laptop. Loaded
SP2 to the laptop and now it shows the network but will not connect. Does
SP2 have to be on the Compaq desktop too in order for it to work maybe?? If
you find out let me know what is going on...

Go to Start at Run type 'services.msc' and then check Wireless Zero
Configuration is set to automatic.

I've got a response from linksys:
First deinstall linksys drivers then update with sp2
sp2 should have the right drivers but had a conflict with the old one's
I can't test it my self, my boss had the troubles on his laptop and he's now
on vacation.

Dlink & Linksys tech support both said wireless card would not work with sp2.
After a couple months of trying EVERYTHING including bringing whole system
down to factory and starting over multiple times...last ditch effort worked
today. Installed SP2. Dlink card (w/Linksys router) not recognized. Went thru
device manager/right clicked network card (Dlink) uninstalled. Hooked to
router thru ethernet cord, downloaded newest Dlink driver (8/04)..even tho
they said it wouldn't work.. reinserted card. VIOLA! Seems the timing was
everything. Thanks FAntary for giving me the willpower to try one more
thing. Hope this helps anyone else out there going thru the agony I was
dealing with.

I have a linksys router which would not allow me on the internet after SP2...
I tried updating the Linksys software, no help, so I deleted the driver and
software. Reinstalled the card which updated the software.... Then I tried
the "start" - "run" - "Services.msc" - checked the wireless zero config which
was on auto, but needed to be restarted... And here I am, surfing the web
without that dumb umbilical cord! Thanks for your ideas!!!!

This information, i.e. sp2 has created unresolvable issues for wireless
users, has made up my mind for me. I'm rebuilding my systems without sp2.
Thanks for saving me a lot of hassle. I don't have time to troubleshoot all
these "upgrades"

I went through similar issues and decided to uninstall as well after reading
Netgears pages:

"Windows XP Service Pack 2 and Software Compatibility (Updated 10/8)
Microsoft issued Windows XP Service Pack 2. It may cause software firewalls
and other software to behave differently. This is a critical security
upgrade, however some reviewers are recommending not to upgrade until issues
are resolved. ZDNet Review.

Microsoft published a long list of software problems: Microsoft Link.
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=884130

NETGEAR has decided to modify their own products for customer convenience. "

I am uninstalling SP2 now, which sucks, but will do that until they figure
this out. I will do software upgrade to my netgear wireless router and see if
I find any updated software for the built in wireless adapter in my Toshiba

You would think Microsoft had taken this issue into consideration before
"luring us" to upgrade to SP2
