For the love of God.. Help me!

Ok. I'm not here to bash Vista. I'm really not. But I've crashed over 50
times in the past 24 hours. I cannot play Halo 2 without it crashing between
10-30 min. Sometimes It'll hang. Most commonly I'll get a Blue screen. I've
never seen a buggier operating system. My first series of BSOD's was due to
the >3gb ram crash, which was patched. But I can't find a patch for this:

Playing Halo 2 I'll get a blue screen with anything from an IRQ error, a
PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA error, to System Service Exception. All of these
happen with dxgkrnl.sys referenced.

I've updated all of the drivers to my:

NVidia 8800 GTX
Fatal1ty X-Fi Sound Card
NVidia 680i SLI Chipset, North Bridge, etc.
Monitors even have drivers.

I've read that the X-Fi cards have conflicts with the 8800 GTX cards. So I
disabled it. Still no go.

I've spent an additional 600$ in new RAM thinking it's this legacy crap I've
got in it, as EVERY OTHER PART IS NEW. I just spent nearly 3 grand on this
thing, and I can barely use it for it's intended purpose: Gaming.

GPU Temperature during gaming is at most 80C (the GPU Can go up to 100C
before issues arise) and at idle is 62C

CPU is an Intel Core 2 Duo Conroe E6850, operating at less than 30C thanks
to the Peltier cooler I have in effect.

The case has two 250mm fans on the intake and plenty of air flow, keeping
ambient temperature to about 35C with the sensor resting near the video card.

So I know it can't be a heat issue. I know it can't be a hardware issue.
This stuff works... well worked.. fine in XP.

So please, PLEASE PLEASE tell me what is wrong, what I'm doing wrong here.
I'm a computer nerd. You have no idea how frustrating it is not to be able to
fix this problem myself. But MS want's me to pay just to get the software,
which I paid for, to even work. This just does not seem right to me. What's
worse is it's their own game, and it's crashing the OS.

So I'm asking you guys. Anyone have an idea of what this problem could be
that I haven't tried? If this is in the wrong area, please forgive me. I felt
this the best section, as it doesn't really fall into any other section...

For the TLDR Crowd:

My system's got top of the line parts, and is crashing constantly.
I've tried removing the sound card which is suspected to cause conflicts in
other (internet) threads.
Not a hardware failure, suspect driver conflict.
Help.

Did you disable the onboard stuff in the bios?

Unfortunately, all I see in that post is people milling about the same
ideas, none of which work. I've already tried upgrading/downgrading drivers.

You sure that's 80 degrees Centigrade?
80C is hottish for a GPU...

Are you OCing the RAM or CPU?

Sounds most like RAM, PSU or temperature problems...

Is system stable at lower CPU clock/FSB speeds?

What is PSU rating?

One quick question - are you using SLI? Or running with a single card?

Also, to confirm ... you're not seeing the same STOP error over and over;
you're actually seeing many different errors - several different blue
screens, plus other crashes and hangs - right??

80C is standard for a 8800 GTX under load. Actually right now it's running 73
under load and 59 not.

PSU is a Thermaltake 850 modular PSU with four dedicated 12V rails for
cards. More than enough juice to handle this stuff.

I have new RAM coming by Tuesday. I hope that's all it is... The new ram is
4-3-3-10 timings, 2 2GB sticks. Mushkin.

And I'm sorry, but UNDERCLOCKING components I paid top dollar for just
doesn't seem like a good solution. Besides the fact that if it can't run
default there's a problem, underclocking can be as dangerous as overclocking.

No, not running SLI. Single card only, and I'm seeing one of three different
stop errors. The most common has no label, but references dxgkrnl.sys as
causing the issue.

I've also had the page fault in non paged area twice and the System Service
one once.

applied update KB936710-x64, and tried KB938979-x64, but that one said it
didn't apply...

Haven't seen a crash since though. We'll see...

Okay, that's good news (I hope). Was typing a longer reply, but let's wait
and see how it goes.

The good news is that to troubleshoot the problem, you have just keep
playing Halo! :-)

Well.. the system didn't crash, halo froze but otherwise good. Also, the
card's running at 72 under load now, instead of 80. dunno What to tell ya...
