Ok, don't blast me for saying it but I've decided after nearly a year of
playing with Vista that I'm not going to hide the shame anymore and have to
say it loud and clear! I LOVE VISTA!

Why do I love it? Because I'm BORED with XP. Why I think people hate Vista?
Because of the low standards Microsoft set for "running" Vista...512mb
reminds me of running Windows 3.1 before people even knew what defraging was
and you'd been using it for 3 years. What were they thinking when they
allowed that? You CAN'T do anything on Vista with 512mb anything--except
your graphics card.

I could go on and on all night about this and that neat little thing and
that quirky little something that I just find so great about Vista but I
won't. But I will tell you the one thing I discovered that clinched the deal
for me LOCATION LOCATION LOCATION!

Location: The "documents, pictures, and music" folder links in the start
menu! Right click on one, hit properties, then hit LOCATION. A VERY handy
thing when you have a 2nd hard drive for those things and are tired of having
to redirect each and every little save to that drive and folder--and
occasionally losing the file to the wrong dang drive for a little while
because you were in a hurry.

What I HATE? UAC! Need I say more on that one? I also hate not being able
to change how email addys are displayed in an email. But that one stems a lot
from people who DON'T delete the extra crap that go on emails when you hit
forward and after 2 attached messages I just delete the email and move on to
another. But I miss being able to have addys list as "John Doe" instead of
"John doe <>" yep, someone requested that, but they could
have let us have the option like we used to so NOT to do it. No, I don't want
the Windows Live mail, I hate IE add ons of any kind that slow me down.

And where the devil is a LEGIT link to email Microsoft with my
frustrations?!?!?!?!

Ok, I'm done... be gentle if you respond! lol

As do many others, myself included. Just let me give you a heads up: On
this NG (and just about every other Vista NG out there), you're going to
get a lot of flak. It wouldn't surprise me at all if Frank, Alias or
Tiberius (or all three) try to get their 2 cents worth by saying how
dumb you are for loving Vista.

But I'm with you. Vista is awesome!

Whoever decided that 512 MB is enough for Vista deserves to be shot.

Ok, that may be a bit harsh, but I'm the one has to put up with OEM
computers that people buy at places like Game or Incredible Connection!

Dual Core CPU with 2GB ram is the Vista sweet spot.

Didn't XP also have that for "My Documents"? But Vista's implementation
is that much sweeter, isn't it? Just why they left out "Videos" is
something I'll never understand...

In the beginning, UAC is a bit of a pain in the rear end, when you're
first installing all your apps and stuff. I hardly ever get UAC prompts
anymore. Maybe once a week or so...

You don't ned one. Just about everyone on this NG (other than Frank,
Alias and Tiberius) are here to help. There's bound to be someone who
can assist if you need.

I have been using computers for quite a while now and I must admit at
first vista seems very different from xp. It is because it is better.
You can do more with it, microsoft has tried to up the security with
uac. I hardly get any prompts when trying to do things now and I have
only had the os two months. There are alot of things under the bonnet
that are easy to find using start-->run msconfig tools
It is great when you have an understanding of the system. It is all
very well for people to complain instead of getting help.

Welcome to Vista users.
98 & Xp made Microsoft understand that Security is the basis of a good and
stable operating system. I've seen loads of people having problems with
Vista and the majority of them because they simply are not interested in
understanding why things happen (a classic is deleting the dustbin icon!)
and want things to be right and stay right.
Just as for Xp people are having to go through problems with drivers and
oldish apps and of course it's hell for those who thought they could
continuing using their pirated apps.
So far I've loading Vista on 3 of my 4 Pc's and all are running perfectly,
stable and simply superior to Xp. I also do a lot of work on a Mac G5 Quad
and it's tough to see the difference when handling heavy graphics files or
basic day to day work. Like any operating system Vista has it's drawbacks,
limitations and teething problems but try and find any system that is
perfect from day one, Ubuntu?? CRAP!
People who continuing bitching about how crappy Vista is simply are not
ready to admit that the world wouldn't continue working without it and no
other system can give the same results, Xp was hell for them and Vista even
more!!

I also love Vista. Had a few minor problems, but got searching, which isn't
hard to do, and found the answers even within here, or google them. I had
vista since March of this year. Vista Home Premium works great!!

That is human nature. Most people also don't care how their car works,
they just want to get in, start it, and go. A car, as well as Vista is a
consumer product, and like any other consumer product, people expect it
to work out of the box.

The OS has nothing to do with running 'pirated apps' other than the
'pirated apps' ability to run on Vista or not.

The world has worked w/o Vista prior to it's release, so that comment is
lame.

I hope you understand consequences of running Raid0 for your main system
HD.

> What I HATE? UAC! Need I say more on that one?

I wonder why you are getting UAC prompts. I find they are very rare these
days, now that I've installed everything and got it all set up as I want it.

One thing to make UAC more tolerable: make your account an Administrator
(don't worry, it still runs as a normal user), and then tweak UAC so it
doesn't require your password.

That way you get a warning whenever something with security implications is
about to happen, but it just requires a single mouse click to dismiss it.

There is no significant loss of security.

Uh, yeah. Do more with it. What does that mean ? What 'more' can you do ?

Are you confused ? Frank LOVES Vista.

Some are called dumb for loving Vista when it is blindly supported saying
it is the greatest OS ever and every part of it is fantastic and refuses to
acknowledge any 'issues' in it what-so-ever. These are the same people that
always blame the user for every problem. I don't need to list them, you've
read them all here.

The OP on the other hand, ended the post with a couple/few things that are
irritating and admitted that these are things they do not like.

You seem to be echoing pretty much what others have been saying about
Vista...
and that is (to paraphrase):

"Except for the portions of it that I hate...it's a really great operating
system."
