I gave Vista Ultimate a spin for a few weeks and found a lot to like about
it.
EXCEPT the cruddy Aero theme, with it's small (PITA to hit) title bar
buttons - distracting, transparent and BLACK (FFS !) (unless you de-maximise
panes) task/menu bars.
It also has a grainy look that's whooped by XP's creamy (green theme) which
offers no distractions whatever, while maximising clarity .... which surely
has to be the primary requirement of any theme.
Shoot, I couldn't even find a usable WindowBlinds theme.
What a shame !
It sucked so bad, I was forced back to XP where at least, my eyes and brain
don't smart from the visual assault upon them.
As the guy at Apple always used to say, you should never let a geek design a
human interface (particularly where aesthetics are involved).
And another geeky thing : Why TF did the Windows display 'designers' (note
heavy use of quotation marks) make the Resize Pane zone (two panes within a
window) one pixel wide ?
See, a geek is closer to a machine than a human - so you just gotta keep
them out of the design loop.
