I have only just changed from XP to Vista home premium and am having a
problem using the low power state. I go to the start menu and click on the
round icon to put the machine into the low power state. My computer will go
into low power mode but fires back up again almost immediately.

Please can you tell me how to keep it in low power mode?

There are many possibilities for bringing the computer out of a low-power
state.

At a CMD prompt type
powercfg -lastwake

this should result in a display of the last thing that caused the computer
to wake up.
(the 'Description' line will hopefully be in English rather than computer
speak)

Report back what it says and someone will expain what is happening and help
you turn off the cause if that is what you want.

Hello Ian

This tutorial may be able to help you determine what is waking you
computer up. Including the other items listed, I would check the BIO
and Network card "Wake On ...." options to make sure that they wer
disabled

Hope this helps
