Mailboxes not receiving mail

Using SBS2008. SBS08 has been configured to replace GoDaddy as the email
sender/receiver. There are 4 email users configured as User mailbox and
receiving email email just fine via OWA.

However, there are 6 email addresses configured as Mail Contacts/
(; ; ...). When
using GoDaddy for email - Outlook was configured to receive email for these
addresses within the Outlook 2007 account setup - worked great. These
addresses, especially service and accounting received mail daily.

Now however, there is no mail being received & I do not understand how to
make a mail contact email (service or accounting) arrive in the Service
Manager's email inbox or in the Bookkeeper's inbox.

Although the OWA is a desired feature - I'd rather use Outlook on each
user's PC configured with the appropriate email accounts ie:
; ; ...etc.

In the 'SBSMonAcct" report I found where Exchange had rejected 176 messages
- i don't know why And assume it is because I've failed to configure
something correctly. How can I fix this?

Thank you,

Rick Pelham

Hi Rick,

Ffirst, I would like to touch base on the following statement:

"There are 4 email users configured as User mailbox and
> receiving email email just fine via OWA. "

OWA does NOT receive mail. It is one of the methods users can use to access
their mailbox. They can read received mail that came in through the server,
or send mail, which will be sent out by the server.

Secondly, contacts do not receive mail. Contacts do not have mailboxes.
Contacts are for outside entities. For example, we have a devevloper on
staff that has their own external email address, and does not need a local
mailbox. However we would like to make sure that his account is in our
Global Address List. Therefore I would create a Contact for him, and provide
the external email address. This way a user in our org will see his name in
the GAL, select it to send an email. The email will be sent to his external
email address.

If you need the contact accounts to receive mail, you will need to delete
them, then recreate the accounts as a mailbox-enabled user account. You can
also add an email address to an existing user, such as the Accountant. Say
his name is Bob Smith. His email address is . You can also
add to his account, . He can now receive mail on that
email, but he will reply back wtih a From address of . You
can do the same with the other accounts, such as ;
, or whatever, and associate them with other individuals as
needed.

Hi Rick,

Thanks for your post and Ace's input.

If the situation is indeed like what Ace pointed that you would like host the "contacts" mailbox on your Exchange server, then you have to change them from contact to normal
Exchange mailbox enabled user accounts. Here are some additional article just for your reference:

Convert Contacts to User Mailboxes

How to Create a New Mail Contact

However, if there is any problem receiving external emails for your domain Exchange accounts, you can also try the "Connectivity Analyzer Tool" to check the inbound mail
flow:

Exchange Server Remote Connectivity Analyzer Tool(ExRCA).

Using the Exchange Server Remote Connectivity Analyzer Tool (Part 2)

Here is the tool:

Hope this helps. Also, if you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to let me know.
