Major apperance/task bar problem

Hi there,

I'm in desperate need of any help here as i have no desktop just a
black screen and going back to university in 2 days time!

Right my pc was completely fine i wanted a new theme for vista so
downloaded this

it was installing some software which i wasnt to sure about but stil
went ahead with it, once installed a box came up saying something like
close all programs and press ok to log off. At this point i thought it
was dodgy so before pressing ok i went 2 control panel and uninstalled
the software then pressed ok.

Stupidly this logged me off then as there was no theme im guessing it
logged back on to a black screen with jsut the mouse pointer showing!

only thing that does work is opening task manager and then running
programes from there. Sooo i ran system restore twice which didnt fix
it, ran control panel and changed the theme and desktop which worked
but i couldn't click the
Control Panel > apperance and personalization > Taskbar and start menu

which is the thing i'm missing, i'm stuck on how to get it back if it
wont open in control panel!

please advise me on how to get back my taskbar menu, desktop so when i
log on im not stuck with a black screen

Try uninstalling in Diagnostics Mode:
Try booting into Diagnostics mode then try uninstalling the offending
program you installed:
Open the 'Run' command - Windows key + R type in 'MSCONFIG' without qoutes,
hit Enter
Go to the General (tab)
Under Startup selection, select the "Diagnostics" radio box
Click OK

Click OK to restart when prompted

When in Diagnostics mode, try uninstalling, if successful, open back
MSCONFIG, General tab, this time select Normal startup click OK and click OK
to restart when prompted.

If that does not work:

Try repairing your system, boot from your Windows Vista DVD, select the
System Repair Option > on the setup screen, select 'Repair Computer > Select
your installation of Windows > select Startup Repair option and follow
instructions. After that has completed, try creating the System Restore
Point.

thanks i've got it back but now my pc is running very very slow, its a
c2duo 2.4 2 gig ram 512 graphics 500g hardrive and is having trouble
playing songs without jerking, i cant use photoshop, basically
everything is slow and i've tried virus scanning, defraggin etc....
