Major problems after hibernation

Not strictly a Vista problem but some clever person may know the
answer. PC had a duff keyboard (USB) so swapped for a PS2. All fine
but friend hit the hibernation key and it went into hibernation fine.
Problem is it won't come back!! He tells me that when he went to power
it back on he gets nothing at all, no lights, no fans etc. I seem to
remember in the distant past that there was a way of getting it to
come back to life by doing something with either the power or the
reset button??

Any ideas please? PC was working perfectly before he hit the button!

Unplug the computer from the power source. Wait a few minutes. Plug it
back in. Turn the computer on.

The only thing left to try is to discharge the CMOS.

Typically a computer that can't post and gives NO beep errors has a problem
with the CPU. I'd suggest the thing to try is to reseat the CPU. With the
heavy heatsinks on CPUs these days and if someone has moved their box, it
isn't uncommon for the CPU to be jarred out of its contacts, just enough to
produce this kind of result. Of course, the CPU itself could have gone
south.

Ok this is a long distance porblem for me - he lives 200 miles away
and I am trying to fix over the phone!! Here's what he's telling me.

Power applied to tower, both the power and HDD LED's flash without any
buttons pressed (?) and the fans appear to spin. He presses the power
button and the fans speed up and the LED's flash faster. At one stage
when he held the power button in, the power led stayed on, the hdd
went off and the cd and dvd lights came on as if it was going to boot
but nothing on screen at all. When he released the button it went back
to flashing again?

Anyone know any good hardware forums I could try?

Forgot to add, he's taken the CMOS battery out, waited 5 minutes and
put it back in again. Same problems.

Taking the CMOS battery out is not the proper way of clearing the CMOS
and usually won't work. You need to actually pull the jumper cap from
it's normal (default) location and place it in the enable (clear CMOS)
location. Only then can you be sure that the CMOS has been cleared.
Consult your owners manual on how to clear the CMOS.

Why are you telling me this? It was Francis that offered that "solution". I
already stated what I believe the problem to be if you don't hear any error
beeps when the computer is trying to post.
