major problems with latest windows update

I know two people who just did a windows update, and now they can't turn on
their computers. It's as though both of their hardrives are completely
fried. Has anyone heard of anyone having any problems with the lastest
windows update?

Security update KB908531 crashes my machine too! I have tried to install
twice, and had to do a restore both times.
