Major woes after latest XP updays

I installed the latest batch of updates this morning and ever since have been
inundated with error windows and unable to go online. The 1st window say
GoogleUpdater.exe - BadImage. There are about 20 in all, referring to ccapp,
etc. I will try some of the work-arounds posted below. Anyone else seeing
this?
