When ever I use MyComputer to browse anything, CD, memory stick, hard drive,
or any folder, it randomly chooses the display mode. For example, if I opne a
folder with all text files in it, it may choose to set the columns view using
Ratings|Tags|DateTaken - just as if the folder had pictures. Or, if I open a
folder with all DOCX in it, it will do the same. If I right-click and set all
the features I want, my next vist back will see the columns hedaers reset to
random headers.

Unfortuntealy, right-clicking on "Documents" won't let me make changes all
the way in all sub-folders. Soon as I do that I get the brakes on the old
Blue Screen of Death (Explorer has stopped working") and I have to re-start
Explorer and not do that again!

I would like all my folder contents display the old fashioned way - of My
Choosing and have it stick, not change the headers ever time I go into a
folder.

If a folder doesn't have music, videos, or pictures, why does Vista insit on
puting up the headers as if it does?

I just want filename.ext date it was created and file size but it just won't
stick.

I'm not afraid to edit the Registry - where and how do I fix Vista to
display headers properly?

No way I know of... you can only hope that MS listens to beta testers and most
all Vista users since, and fixes this in the next Windows - they sure didn't
listen to beta testers for Vista (Explorer) when this was complained and bugged
about all during that beta.

In the meantime you can set the columns for any folder the way you want, right
click that folder, click Properties, and on the Customize tab, choose "All
Items" in the drop down, and then put a check in the "Also apply this template
to all subfolders", click Apply & OK... ...then... go into Folder Options on
the Organize tab in Explorer, and on the View tab choose "Apply to folders" -
which applies those settings to folders of that type - which should apply them
to all types now.... however, the setting may stay that way for some time and
then change again (as you have discovered) when some pics or music etc., has
been added to a folder... and you will then have to do all the above process
again.... and again.... and etc....
