I was fooling around with my folders when I uninstalled 8.5 and put in the
new beta and I happened to come across where the Sharing Folders are stored,
so by a hunch, I backed up that whole directory, which included my custom
emotes. When I installed the beta, and restored that directory, I got my
custom emotes back, and they DO work in the new beta. So for those who cant
get their old custom emotes back and working, make sure you back up the
following directory before uninstall of 8.5:

XP Home/Pro: "C:\Documents and Settings\<your_name>\Local
Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Messenger\<your_msn_email>"

Vista: No Clue, as I dont use Vista, but Im sure the Vista version of the
directory is close to similar

Any problems caused by software made by leading manufacturers is always the
users fault, never the manufacturer. That's the real world of computer
software manufacturers, deal with it.

Greetings,

Yes, the format hasn't changed. However, at no time will the objectstore be removed by
Microsoft by uninstalling or reinstalling Messenger. So, there's no need to back up and
restore these just in doing these maintenance tasks.

You can also move these from machine to machine but not account (Live ID) to account (Live
ID).
